Art - Awesome Art | Grades: SK-6 - register online This course covers it all - painting, drawing, sculpting, crafting and more. We will have do-it-yourself projects, and learn new techniques to create original art of our own. We will get those creative juices flowing. Every week we will feature a different project. It’s a great way to get exposure to many different art methods and mediums. Taught by Marisa Ievans.
The tradition continues! This course is a great way to get to know important artists from the past to the present. Every week features a new artist. We will paint landscapes, make abstract sculptures, draw self portraits and more! We will learn about other artists’ work and be inspired to create our own wonderful art. Taught by Marisa Ievans.
Spring into action as we roll up our sleeves and slice it, sprinkle it, roll it, cook it, season it or whatever it takes to prepare a special dish with your fellow chefs. Whether we serve our concoctions to our neighbors in our makeshift café or take samples home to share with the family, you will be able to enjoy the fruits of your labors. Taught by Robin Schroud.
Join Mad Science as we spark the imagination of young scientists! There will be different topics every week - from chemistry to space, the science of toys, and the wonders of weather. The course features lots of hands-on science fun and take-home activities in each class!
Kids will learn how to play chess and master their techniques. Students will be taught by world-renowned chess coaches. They will learn very cool openings, mid-games (with all the pins), double attacks, end-games, and other fun things in chess... even a bughouse and an Academy Tournament! The re-emerging and trendy art of knitting has resurfaced in metropolitan cities around the globe! In New York, San Francisco, and Paris (just to name a few) kids have rediscovered the fun of what they can create with two knitting needles. And now, we offer a funky knit club to Chicago! Calling all yarn-loving kids; especially beginners. We learn the basics of casting on and a few simple stitches. Then we expand to different stitches and larger knit items. Each class also makes one joint project that will grace our Old Town Clubhouse neighborhood. Taught by Kelly Friedl. Yarn and needles will be supplied by our sponsor company, The Urban Infant.
Structured for tots 6 to 36 months, this class is a place where children learn through “play” where creative expression is encouraged and lasting friendships are made. Join your child and see the world through their eyes as they engage in group play. “Let’s hold hands for circle games and sing out loud. Let’s jump really high and march all around. We’ll definitely get our hands messy as we paint, paste, and create. We’ll gather together, it will be just great.” Founded by Susan Ravine and Cara Pollard; visit www.awayweplaychicago.com to register.
