Summer 2009 Programs

Grades: 1-8 (grade of child in Fall 2009) Get ready for a broom-sweeping spectacular and “just a spoonful of sugar.” Join artists from The House Theater to learn the songs and act out our own version of this classical musical. Students will also engage in visual art activities, making props and scenery for the final performance at the end of the week. Wear comfortable clothes and bring a lunch. Grades: JK-8 (grade of child in Fall 2009) Join members of the House Theater to explore this Disney classic about a little boy and his quest to become real. We’ll learn the popular songs and create our own version of the story. We’ll learn the popular songs and dances and create our own version of the story. Grades: JK-8 (grade of child in Fall 2009) The House Theater of Chicago creates original stories and performs them live on stage using a variety of media (from acting to music and dance to puppets to big spectacle). Join members from the company for the week and learn the process for creating your own story. We’ll write, act, sing, dance and make props and scenery for an informal performance at the end of the week. Wear comfortable clothes. Snack will be provided. August 24-28 9:00am-12:00pm Grades: JK-SK Member/Non-Member: $150/$190
Ages: 4-5 (Must be 4 by camp start date) Arts and crafts! Puppets and costumes! Storytime and theater games! A fun, hands-on introduction to all things theater especially for this age group. Each day will center on a different aspect of theater. Bring a lunch or snack each day! (No performance) Taught by Amy Ewaldt. June15-19 9:30-11:30am Ages 4-5
Grades: 1-8 (grade of child in Fall 2009) Learn the ins and outs of theater, including auditioning, warm-ups, improv, basic stage combat, crew and more. Students will work in a highly-structured ensemble to create their final show, “Charming Little One Acts.” All children will play very active parts both onstage and backstage. Register early so you don’t miss out! Bring a lunch, comfy clothes and water bottle each day! Show on Friday at 2:00pm. Taught by Amy Ewaldt. Previous adaptations were: A Tribute to Shel Silverstein, The Wolves in the Walls and Chrysanthemum. This year’s adaptations to be announced. August 3-7 9:00am-3:00pm Grades: 1-8
Grades: 3-8 (grade of child in Fall 2009) Come out, come out, wherever you are! I want all of my talented stars back for a musical extravaganza! Extra emphasis this year on auditioning, commonly used dance steps, and acting! Join us as we showcase your talent in an afternoon performance of solos, duets and trios called “Scenes and Songs.” We will focus on acting technique, improv, vocal technique, movement, and choreography. Based on your comfort level, you can be the star of a solo, duet or trio. Please bring a bag lunch, comfy clothes, dance shoes (whatever you have) and water. Show on Friday at 2:00pm.
