Get up-to-the minute performing arts program info on The Backstage Blog!
Have you ever wanted to get up on a stage and show your family and friends just how funny you can be? In this class kids will form their own comedy troupe, create characters, write original sketches and play improv games (geared both toward the creation of characters and performance). The class will culminate in a final showcase that will take place at Menomonee Club on the final day of class. Taught by Jacque Lueken.
The classic adventure of Dorothy, Scarecrow, Tin Man and Lion (and Toto too!) as they journey down the Yellow Brick Road to see the great and mysterious Wizard of Oz. Through triumphs and troubles, sadness and song, Dorothy will learn that “there’s no place like home.” The Lake Forest Children’s Theatre Company Program is a fun and entertaining way for students to learn discipline, responsibility, teamwork, and dedication. We spark imagination and train children to think creatively and intuitively. Classes improve communication skills, self-esteem and respect for others and encourage students to explore their own creative voices. Most of all, the Children’s Theatre inspires a love for the performing arts.
Kids will have their first chance to perform on stage. All children involved in this program will attend weekly rehearsals to learn songs, dances and scenes. This class includes theater games, activities and more. Each child who is enrolled will receive a part in the show. Children will be given a practice cassette tape and script for personal practice. Our highly accredited instructors will direct the children. Children must be able to attend the first day of class for “auditions” of parts. We will not accept anyone after the first day of class. Absences must be limited to two classes per sessions in order to participate. There will be a performance December 11 and 12 at Ruth Page Foundation for Dance.
Children involved in this program will participate in weekly rehearsals to produce a full-length musical production! Each child will participate in an audition the first day of class, however everyone will receive a part! Absences limited to two class sessions. There will be a public performance December 11 and 12 at the Ruth Page Foundation for Dance. Kids will enjoy expressing themselves, bringing to life characters from their favorite books. Find out how to talk like a lion or walk like a caterpillar, and use your imagination to create the scenes in every story. On the last day, we’ll share our favorite story with family and friends. Join the adventure as we chase tales, fables, myths and legends from around the world! In addition to working with traditional tales, we will create our own stories, bringing to life unique characters and plot twists. At the end of the session, we’ll share an original performance with family and friends. THE-301 Wednesday
Creative Movement | Ages: 3–4 - register online “Make yourself look like a bowling pin.” “Can you write your name with your body?” “What does this sound look like?” Aside from balance, coordination, and flexibility, dance education for young children introduces them to creative ways to interpret their world. Creative Movement is a great way for young kids to develop motor skills, gain body awareness, promote respect for self and others, and boost self-esteem while having a blast!
Ballet | Grades: JK-12 - register online A must for any dancer, ballet is the foundation for all other forms of dance. It makes a dancer’s body strong, agile, and flexible. Ballet improves musicality, balance, and coordination.

Develop a dancer's coordination and style. Refine how your body moves as you stretch, jump and turn with jazz technique. Stylistic diversity will lead to dance versatility.
Designed especially for those who love to dance, and want to explore all the endless possibilities! This class will touch on a variety of dance styles, including jazz, modern, hip-hop and ballet technique.

Students in this class will be given the extraordinary opportunity to perform in various settings throughout the year. Pieces will be especially created for this group by one of the choreographers of Thodos Dance Chicago. The first 75 minutes of class will consist of ballet technique, followed by 90 minutes of rehearsal. Every effort will be made to replicate a professional dance environment. Enrollment is by audition only; written commitment to attend every rehearsal is requested. Auditions for all participants are the first day of class. Dancers are also encouraged to enroll in one additional weekly class at no extra cost.
