Ages: 4-8 Come join Edgars Legzdins for some soccer fun. Edgars will teach boys and girls the “ins and outs” of soccer. Individual skill training is enhanced through sportsmanship and teamwork concepts. Edgars has been playing soccer all his life in club and overseas teams, as well as coaching soccer on the high school level. Edgars has trained U8, U9 and U13 boys and girls teams with the Pegasus Soccer Club in Deerfield and the Northbrook FC Soccer Club. Shin guards are recommended for this class. Grades: 1-2 Our Menomonee staff teaches the game of football from scratch. Have fun learning the basics of passing, catching, positioning, and strategy through skill training and thrilling scrimmage games. FTB-201 Tuesday FTB-301 Wednesday
Have a real football experience while playing with minimal physical contact. Practices are once weekly. Games are held on Saturday afternoons. One hour game time as scheduled, between 12:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. Volunteer coaches needed! Grades: 1-6 Join J.B. Schuck for his exciting new program. He will teach the (fun)-damentals of classic retro games such as dodgeball, kickball, whiffle-ball and more. Grades: 3-6 This is a great program to foster a sense of strength for girls! Running Club is about more than just running; it’s a wonderful way to make new friends, learning basic running techniques together, and enjoying the bonding spirit of running. Grades: 1-6 Calling all basketball nuts! Each week, players will practice basketball skills, pick new teams and play supervised, grade-appropriate games. Great fun for aspiring hoopsters. Grades: SK-3 Learn the fundamentals of various sports in a supportive atmosphere. Basic skills will be taught in organized team sports like flag football, soccer and field hockey. The program also features fun group games like Capture the Flag, Kickball and Sharks and Minnows. Girls will be divided into age-appropriate groups. SPO-501 Friday Location: Waveland Park
Ages: 7–17 yrs youth with physical disabilities RIC Programs for Caring for Kids provides year-round adaptive sports and recreation programs including two 4-week summer camps for youth ages 7–17 specifically with physical disabilities. Caring for Kids also offers weekly Sunday yoga and karate classes at the Drucker Center through Yoga for the Special Child and Thousand Wave Martial Arts and Self-Defense Center. Ages: 3–5 One-on-One’s dedicated instructors will conduct weekly 45-minute clinics as an introduction to basketball and physical fitness for you and your children. Classes will be adult interactive as participants learn the fundamentals of the sport with an emphasis on dribbling and ball handling. Classes will also include basic footwork and hand-eye coordination drills and games, as well as learning the importance of teamwork and sportsmanship. All ages welcome Stroller Strides is a total fitness program that moms can do with their babies. It includes power walking or jogging and intervals of body toning using exercise tubing and the stroller. Taught by certified instructors (who are also moms), it's a great workout for any level of exerciser. Stroller Strides is also a wonderful support network. Through Stroller Strides classes you will support and connect with other moms, share advice, tips and most importantly laughter. Your first class is free! Ages: 9-16 Tri-Fitness/Growing Strong is partnering with Menomonee Club for Boys and Girls to offer a speed and agility camp specifically designed for young athletes. The most important element of our camp is that the kids are having FUN while learning the techniques they need to perform better in sports. We teach the kids how to enhance their multi-directional speed, agility, coordination, strength, power and balance to improve their athleticism and general fitness. Our coaching staff has many years of experience training and coaching both youth and adult clients. All our coaches are certified Youth Fitness Specialist by the IYCA (International Youth Conditioning Association). Ages: JK and Up Learn the classic Japanese Olympic sport as we teach it – with a modern twist. Our supportive staff will help you develop self-confidence, self-discipline, coordination and agility. Our successful program has been recognized by the United States Judo Federation for excellence in teaching and has produced many recent local, regional, national and international champions. Taught by Sensei Brett Wolf, a former national champion with over 20 years of experience. Returning students must check with Sensei for class level. Note: No Judo on election days! Ages: 3 and Up This new action-packed class features the secret arts and awesome techniques of Taekwondo (a Korean martial art). An Olympic sport utilizing exciting blocks, kicks, and punches, Taekwondo also develops control and self-discipline. Taekwondo teaches techniques that can be used for both self-defense and competition. Students will be instructed by Grand Master Kidd, who is a certified and licensed instructor by the United States Taekwondo Union and holds a sixth degree black belt (World Taekwondo Federation). Grand Master Kidd is the highest ranked non-Korean martial artist in Illinois, and has over 20 years teaching experience. It is recommended for students to take classes twice weekly but it is not required. Ages: 8 to Adult These classes will provide a great introduction to fencing and a forum for more advanced training. We’ll make this class fun as well as educational. Taught by Tsanko Hantov and Windy City Fencing. Tsanko Hantov competed in the 2000 Olympic Games and won a Bronze medal at the 2001 World Cup (England) in the Modern Pentathlon. Tsanko was a National Senior Champion in 1998 and a National Junior Champion in 1995 and 1996 men’s epee in Bulgaria. Tsanko has coached fencing for more than seven years, and has extensive experience training fencers at all levels. Tsanko has been the head coach at Windy City Fencing since 2005. He is a graduate of the National Sports Academy, Sofia, Bulgaria and is now the owner of Windy City Fencing, Inc. Instructor approval is needed for all advanced classes. Ages: 8 to 18 This team will combine a great introduction to fencing as well as allow a forum for more advanced training. Fencing team classes are fun and educational with games, drills and a lot of fencing! This program is designed to provide students with training programs and private lessons to prepare them for national-level competition. Taught by Tsanko Hantov and Windy City Fencing. (See Fencing Club description for more information on Tsanko Hantov.) Instructor approval is needed for advanced-level teams. Join one of three levels.
