Fall 2009 Programs

Grades: 2-8 For the serious musical theater student, this class features auditioning skills, improv, choreography and dance work, and voice and body training. Students work in a supportive, close-knit group to create individual and ensemble numbers for a Fall Showcase performance. Black jazz shoes or black ballet shoes required. Taught by Amy Ewaldt. The Brainy and Beautiful Belle yearns to escape her provincial life…and her brute of a suitor, Gaston. However, Belle gets more adventure than she wanted when she becomes a captive in the Beast’s enchanted castle! Dancing flatware, menacing wolves, and singing furniture fill the stage with thrills in this beloved fairy tale about very different people finding strength in one another and learning how to love.
Grades: SK-1 Children involved in this program will attend weekly rehearsals to learn songs, dances and scenes leading up to the performance of a musical revue on stage! Theater games and team building activities are used to build confidence and acting skills. Each child will participate in an audition the first day of class, however everyone will receive a part! Absences must be limited to two class sessions. There will be a public performance – date, time and location TBA. THE-401 Thursday No class on Thursday, Nov 26 for Thanksgiving

Ages 5-7 From myths to legends to fables, students will adapt stories into original tales, developing new characters and acting out their creations! Session is nine weeks: Sept. 14–Nov. 10. THE-301 Wednesday Location: Drucker Center
These classes in personal skills and performance skills are taught using the imaginative, collaborative, and physical theater style as seen on the Lookingglass Main Stage. Ages 3-4 “Make yourself look like a bowling pin.” “Can you write your name with your body?” “What does this sound look like?” Aside from balance, coordination, and flexibility, dance education for young children introduces them to creative ways to interpret their world. Creative Movement is a great way for young kids to develop motor skills, gain body awareness, promote respect for self and others, and boost self-esteem while having a blast! Taught by Menomonee Club Performing Arts Coordinator, Lauren Warnecke. Note: children must be potty trained to enroll. Grades: JK and Up A must for any dancer, ballet is the foundation for all other forms of dance. It makes a dancer’s body strong, agile, and flexible. Ballet improves musicality, balance, and coordination. Grades: JK and Up Designed especially for those who love to dance, and want to explore all the endless possibilities! This class will touch on a variety of dance styles, including jazz, modern, hip-hop and ballet technique. Grades: 11-18 Students in this class will be given the extraordinary opportunity to perform in a professional setting before a large, educated dance audience. A piece will be especially created for this group by one of the choreographers of Thodos Dance Chicago. The first 60 minutes of class will consist of ballet technique, followed by 90 minutes of rehearsal. Every effort will be made to replicate a professional dance environment. Enrollment is by audition only; written commitment to attend every rehearsal is requested. Auditions for all participants are the first day of class. Dancers are also encouraged to enroll in one additional weekly class at no extra cost. DAN-109 Monday Location: Drucker Center
